Troubleshooting

Topics

Why is my RoWrite not writing?

The green light of the Operating Indicator is significant because it confirms that your writing is being recorded. If the green light does not light when you are writing (and the unit is powered up) you must make space by uploading the contents of the RoWrite memory to the RoWrite app. Also, check that your pen has the battery installed with the cap tightened all the way and also the distance of the pen tip from the tablet surface is 2mm. This is about 20 standard printer pages thick.

Why did my RoWrite turn off?

If the RoWrite is inactive for 20 minutes it will enter a sleep mode to conserve power. RoWrite can be brought back out of sleep mode by pressing the power button. RoWrite will assume you are on the same page as when it went to sleep. Alternatively, ensure you have checked battery life to ensure it is properly charged.

What if the memory is full? If I continue to write, will it replace the old pages with the new pages or will it stop recording the new pages?

If the memory is full, new pages will not be recorded. When the light stops showing green while writing, you can simply connect to the RoWrite app, sync all the notes, and release the memory space of RoWrite 1. You can use RoWrite 1 with or without connecting to the app. When connected with app, pages will not take up the memory of RoWrite 1. If you use RoWrite 1 without connecting to the app, it will store up to 60 pages of notes for your daily use.

Why do I feel the battery drops faster when it is below 50% battery capacity?

When the battery indication light turns Red, the remaining battery is 30% and we recommend you start charging your device. After the device is fully charged, you can use it up to 8 hours and it can standby for over a week.

What controls do I have from the main screen in the app?

When you first bring up the app, you will be presented with a page gallery which will show you all your individual notes and folders. Folders will show the first page contained within and show a number indicating how many notes are inside. Also, from the settings option (gear icon in the upper left corner) you can pair the RoWrite, set a default pen type, access device info and see battery info. You can also be linked to the Royole website for customer support or shop for accessories. The syncing option (circular arrows in the upper right) will upload any stored notes on the RoWrite. You will also see a large “+” in the lower right corner which will allow you to create a new note. The center of the main screen is filled with thumbnails of your stored notes. Tap the note to bring it up where you may edit or play the progression view (a video of the progression of your drawing or notes). Below each is the name and three note dots. These note dots, when tapped, allow you to change the name (pencil icon), export/share (folder with arrow icon),or delete (trash can icon). Can I modify my files using the app?

Yes. To edit what is already on the note: tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner to allow you to replace strokes with a different pen tip, color, width, or opacity. Select new pen type, touch the lines you wish to change, and hit the preview eye. To cancel (X) or accept (check mark).

Touching the black dot at the bottom left opens up a color wheel that allows writing in different colors. On the upper bar an eraser icon allows your finger to remove ink from the note.

Writing and drawing on the app can be done with your finger or a tablet stylus. You can also edit in real time with your RoWrite tablet. Anytime you enter into edit mode and write on the tablet your pen strokes will appear on the note in the form of the writing utensil, width, and transparency that is selected on the app. The exception is the eraser which can be used only with finger or stylus directly within the app.

Am I able to merge files?

Select this icon and a window will appear allowing you to see the current export format and your export/share choices. Selecting the “Current Format” field brings on a pop-up window that offers a selection between formats. You can toggle between JPG and PNG. These can be shared through image based programs. If you select PDF then you will be prompted to select a location appropriate for storing non-image files. The default setting will be JPG.

*Below the format selection, the pop-up window shows certain preselected locations to share or store your files. If these are not sufficient, then the “More” button gives you access to other apps that are resident on your device such as Dropbox, Evernote, and OneNote.

Holding the note dots for one second will allow you to merge notes or move multiple notes to a folder.

How can I transfer my notes to the app?

Open the RoWrite app on your device, ensure the RoWrite tablet is paired via Bluetooth, and press the “A” button on the tablet. The RoWrite will then upload all notes digitally to the app memory and will clear the tablet memory. Alternatively, the circular arrow sync icon on the main screen of the RoWrite app will initiate a sync.

To add/erase lines: press the pen icon in the bottom middle of the note to get into edit mode. A set of different writing instruments allows you to choose the effect. Touching one of the writing instruments will allow you to set the width and transparency of the writing.

The Merge function allows you to combine two notes and create one.

To merge notes: Go to main screen of the app and press and hold the three note dots on the lower right corner of the note for one second. The merge/move screen will appear with the note selected with a blue check mark. Select your other note by pressing it with your finger. You may then press the “Merge” text to merge the notes. Only two notes may be merged at a time. If you select more than two notes then the merge function will be disabled and you will only be able to move them to another folder. You may deselect a note by pressing the note again. The blue check will then disappear.

Is there a way to manage my content into folders?

RoWrite allows you to organize your notes by creating folders. To do so, select the first note you want to be in that folder by pressing and holding the three note dots to the lower right of the note. You will see the Merge/Move screen. From here, select any other notes you would like included in the folder and press “Move”. At this point you will have an option to select an existing folder or create and name a new folder.

How do I export or share my files?

From the main screen of the app, tap the three note dots and a pop-up with three options will appear. The center option with the arrow pointing out of a folder is the export/share option.

What is progression view and how does it work?

RoWrite supports a special mode where the it can record the progression of your drawing or note taking. A MP4 movie file can be generated showing the order of your pen strokes.

Playing a movie: When you are done with the drawing you can press the play button in the upper right hand corner. This will transform your drawing into a video. You may add to the video by pressing the back button in the upper left hand corner.

Splitting a movie: To split any movie, play it and stop the play at the point you desire the split. Press the split icon. This will result in two still images placed in RoWrite memory.

Saving a movie: Pressing the save button will save your video file to your mobile device image storage area. If your video is longer than 10 seconds you will have an option to save at the original length or else to compress the entire video into a ten second file.
